India Accelerates Rail Coal Shipments as Power Plant Reserves Fall to Critical Levels
Indian coal companies are increasing deliveries to coal-fired power plants as more than 50 facilities saw reserves drop below the critically low threshold of 25%, according to India's Ministry of Coal. The stockpile depletion stems from rising electricity demand driven by strong El Niño conditions, while monsoon rains have disrupted coal supply chains. The number of affected power plants has risen to 53.
