Privacy notice
This page explains what Revelation News stores about a reader with an account, why, and how to get rid of it.
What is collected
First name, last name and email address, plus any optional profile photo you upload. If you use saved stories, we also keep the folder name and icon you choose and a snapshot of each saved story. No phone number, address or payment details. Google shares only your basic account identity.
What it is used for
Keeping you signed in, sending the verification code and password reset links, and nothing more. Marketing email is a separate, unticked box — creating an account is not consent to it, and you can change your mind at any time.
Cookies
Two cookies, both written by the server and both httpOnly, which means no script on the page can read them. One remembers which stories you have already opened so the sign-up prompt appears at the right moment; it holds story addresses only and expires after 30 days. The other keeps you signed in and lasts as long as your session. There are no advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking cookies here, and no third-party tag managers.
Performance measurements
The site records how quickly pages load and respond, together with the address of the page the measurement came from. These records hold no account identifier, no IP address and nothing that can be traced back to a reader; they exist so we can find slow pages and fix them.
Embedded content
On stories about a listed company a price chart is embedded from TradingView. Your browser loads it directly, so TradingView can see your IP address and browser details under its own privacy policy; if you do not open such a story, no request is made. Article photographs work differently: our server fetches them and serves them from this domain, so your browser never contacts the photo provider.
Who else sees it
Nobody. Data is not sold or handed to advertisers. Two processors are involved because the site cannot run without them: the database host that stores the account, and the email service that delivers the verification code.
How long it is kept
For as long as the account exists. Verification codes die within minutes and expired sessions are deleted. Removing a profile photo deletes it; deleting the account also deletes the photo, comments, saved folders and stories.
Where the data is held
The database and the email service run on servers in the United States. If you create an account from the EU, the UK or a comparable jurisdiction, your account data is transferred there. We use providers that publish data-protection terms for international transfers. You can avoid the transfer entirely by reading without an account — nothing is stored about a signed-out reader beyond the cookie described above.
Comments and moderation
If you comment, we store the comment, its time, your account identifier and moderation or report records. Your first name, the initial of your last name and any profile photo you choose are displayed publicly with a published comment; your email is never displayed. Temporary technical signals may be used for rate limiting and abuse prevention. Deleting your account deletes your comments and associated reports. Other members' reports are visible only to moderators.
Contributions and payment data
If you choose to support us, the entire payment happens on PayPal's own site. This site never sees, transmits or stores card numbers, security codes or bank details, and no card form is hosted here. PayPal acts as an independent data controller for that transaction under its own privacy policy. From PayPal's reports we can see the contributor name, the email address used, the amount and the date — nothing more. That record is kept only as long as tax and accounting rules require, and is never used for marketing.
Legal basis
Account data is processed to perform the service you asked for; security and anti-abuse measures rest on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working; marketing email is sent only with your separate, freely given consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Contribution records are kept to meet legal accounting obligations.
Your rights
You can see and delete your account at any time from your account page; deletion is immediate and permanent. Readers in the EU, the UK and other regions with equivalent laws can additionally request access to, correction of, or a copy of their data, object to processing, or complain to their local data protection authority.
