Brazil reports record decline in Amazon deforestation ahead of key election

Source Summary

Brazil has recorded a record fall in Amazon deforestation. The rainforest serves as a critical buffer against climate change, though deforestation had expanded during former president Jair Bolsonaro's tenure.

Why it matters

The Amazon's role as a climate regulator makes deforestation trends significant for global climate outcomes and Brazil's environmental policy direction.
